Lots of good info that makes me want to get one now :-)

There is a section covering some of the software by developers in the community.

If it were a fake YM2151, it would've been caught before ever making it to Adrian, and even if it weren't, Adrian would've figured it out pretty quickly. Chances are, it's a legit YM2151. :P

sure. if works gotta be a authentic one.
But that is very much clearly relabeled.
If those were any good at all, there shouldn't be a crisis at all for those are littered all over aliexpress and eBay

I can't tell if this is sarcasm, so just in case: Only the OPM has the OPM's pinout and register layout. If the CX16 is giving coherent FM sound output, then whatever chip is fitted there must functionally be an OPM, unless there's some other kind of compatible/clone chip out there (that'd be pretty helpful to know!)

That doesn't mean this specific chip isn't relabeled, but if it is, it's a YM2151 relabeled as itself (which probably happens sometimes).

Sorry, a bit harsh on words.
I mean no offense.
I was told not to write Shakespeare for emails and all...
So it might appear a little … yeah.

All I saying is, those relabeled chips can be 6441 SRAM chips.
If some of them were only relabeled to be some what "new", and got mixed in the SRAM chips, there is the possibility to handpick the SRAM chips out and return them.
But Mr. Murray just said that all rebadge chips he got were SRAM chips.
He has no idea what's up with Adrian's chips.
henh?
So exactly who knows what's up with this chip?
certainly not Adrian himself, I left the comment among those mobs. I doubt he'll read it.

Uh. No. That's a real Yamaha chip on Adrian's board. Go back and look at the last update where Dave was showing the difference between the real one and fake one, the one in Adrian's board is clearly a real one.

Also, Adrian's board is dev board 4, which is one of the original 10... this was before they started getting the fake chips.

you say so.
did you actually watch the montage where Adrian had it on a turntable before the intro?
look closely at YM2151.
the slik screen is different, datecodes are weird.
Also, there is a almost carbonfibers texture to the chip, clearly indicating polishing.

you can see the texture after 0:40
for your reference.

I own DEV board 7 - and it's YM2151 looks exactly the same as Adrian's (texture and labels). And I can confirm it is working perfectly and behaves like any other YM2151 chip. I have no idea what batch or manufacturer this is from - but it works.
