I was using a Sharp PC-5000 earlier this year, making some demos on that -- an old portable from '83 with BASIC - doing some PSET and circles. It was super slow on that too! I actually think its liquid matrix LCD screen itself was a bottleneck.

Long Long ago, when I first learned about PSET, I had this thought "wow now I can program anything! I can just PSET the screen to look like whatever! Programming is E-Z." haha
The shirt is drawn mostly with LINE and FRAME. I do call my CIRCLE/ARC routine for the Bottom of the Shirt pocket and the
shirt buttons. The shirt Buttons are small which really speeds up the routine.

Ok I did a little tweaking on the Circle routine. I didn't get any astronomical speed increases but I
think the code is a little more efficient. Filled Circles and Ovals now get drawn a bit faster. I had
the loop STEP very tight to avoid PIXEL artifacts. Turns out I could make it a bit bigger. I tweaked it up
until I started getting to many artifacts, then tweaked it back down to the last value that worked. I
think Filled Ovals now draw about 60 to 70% faster now. (THE FACE and the SHOES Mostly)

Also made a couple tweaks in how the Title Screen looks.

I didn't know about the REM trick. I didn't know this BASIC could do that. That'll definitely come in handy.

Also, are you using hard CRs when you post entries? If so, you don't need to. It makes it easier to read if you let it word wrap.

When you control V into the Emulator its just like your typing really, really fast as far as BASIC is concerned. If you type a REM "STUFF" in immediate mode nothing happens. So the REM is pasted into the keyboard buffer, since theres no line number BASIC just doesn't store it as part of the program. Saves a bit of RAM especially on long programs.

I'm jumping the Gun a lttle with this post since I don't have code yet.

But I'm working User Interface elements right now...

I want the Alphabet to be layed out in a small Grid in 3D Button Format.
There is going to be a Graphic "Button Pushed" effect and probably a click sound when a letter is selected.
Mouse support may or may not be in the first demo code, but it will be there when it is a game.

The buttons will disappear from the Grid as they are selected.

So not any new code at the moment............. But I am putting in a couple hours after work everyday.
I would put more but Sleep is so necessary.

I want this to kind of resemble a GEOS game.

Ok. I'm working on some User Interface code.

This is pretty close to how I'm going to Layout the Alphabet on the Screen for Letter Input.

As a bonus there will actually be a 3-D, Button push effect with sound.
(I've got a pretty good Flow Chart laid out in my Brain for this..
But haven't put code to keyboard yet)

ALSO. During Game play as each letter is chosen, After the button is
pressed that button will disappear from the Screen for the rest of
that round of play. There will be a few Jiffy Delay before the Button
disappears so that the player has enough time to observe the effect.

The "Button Press" is to be initiated by either a Key on the Keyboard
or by Mouse click. (Mouse probably won't be in the first playable version
but will be shortly after).

HANGMAN IN BASIC... CHANGED CIRCLE ALGORITHM

OK. Playing with CIRCLE Today.

Using the BRESNHAM Algorithm. It not Almost but not quite a drop in Replacement.
Its going to take a bit of Tweaking to get Hangman looking quite right again. Maybe
even a entire day of coding.

Its Enough Faster than SIN/COS to make that worthwhile. Its not even as fast as it could be
because of all my conditional code to enable Screen Clipping and Turning Quarters of the
circle on and off.

I'm posting my example code unchanged. There's some Drawing artifacts on the Hangman with
the New Algorithm. This is so everyone can see what I have to fix.

But it is a bit quicker :) :) :)
