I think it is a great idea to use the Apple II bus and to be able (after writing software) all the hardware cards created. Would be a massive boost för the X16!

The expansion slot is now fixed in design. It's a 60-connector slot.

Yes, the design is now set in stone. Apple II cards aren't going to work, much for the same reasons Commodore 64 cartridges would not have worked: this system runs at 8MHz, and the logic to make a cart work at 1MHz while the rest of the system works at 8MHz is prohibitive.
However, if you want to build a Commander-Apple bridge board, that would be a great feature.
