I've tried the new all-in-one ROM updater software, it is very excellent and here is a review of its usage. The plan is to package a cohesive set of ROMs into one package (.PKG). While I was able to do a full update, and could also prepare custom packages, it's still a "coming soon" kind of feature. Here is a preview of its usage:

I've not yet fully messed with the MIDI cards, being focused more on the network/serial card. Also be aware of the BASLOAD and 6502-coding videos recently on YT, as some starter content on using the X16 system. But any written docs will still be a while.

FYI here is my attempt to make an official step-by-step guide, describing how to get from any board version to latest release. Since it have been reviewed, approved and merged to the docs repo, I guess this is the closest you get to something official.

The web emulator is simply an older version of the official emulator.
Well, unless the rules of math have changed, that sounds like two emulators to me, regardless of what the Web version is for. Personally, I find myself using the Web version more than the "official" emulator, mostly because I bounce between several computers throughout the day, but I understand that it's not really for any serious development work, that's what the stand-alone emu is for.
