Hello from Octal!

Post by Octal »

Hello! I'm Octal, also known as Oliver.
I'm 18 years old, and I've been programming since I was 12. I've been really interested in retro technology, namely the NES and C64. I taught myself 6502 assembly a while back, though I mainly use programming languages like Kotlin, Java, and Rust. I'm also interested in Minecraft modding, Rubik's Cubes, and programming language development.
You can find my GitHub at Oliver-makes-code.
Nice to meet y'all!

Sure, but he's been programming since he was 014. I remember when I was 014, We didn't have consumer level computers, but we had phones with a dial that went to 011! It would be another 014 years before Spinal Tap nailed that joke!

Sure, and you're lucky, I didn't have a computer to program on until I was 0o22, and that was a Timex Sinclair 0o1750 (one of the world's most closet compatible computers) ... it wasn't until I got my Commodore 0o100 when I was 0o23 that I could really get into programming.

I also took a programming class about that time, or maybe when I was 0o24, but it was Fortran 0o115 on punch cards, so it didn't have nearly the same skills to carry forward as the kids two year after me who got to use glass terminals connected to a timeshared minicomputer.

Hi Octal/Oliver.

welcome to the community. Good to see some younger programmers here to balance out all the "octalgenarians" who started coding with rocks and sticks.
