Greetings! I'm a 1972 vintage human meatbag from the UK. I work for a software company, and like cats and old computers.

I discovered the X16 like most via 8-BitGuy videos on YouTube. I played with the X16 emulator, and eventually made a snap package for Linux of it. You can find it at https://snapcraft.io/x16emu - there's builds for the Pi and desktop too.

Confession, I was more of a Spectrum kinda guy growing up. I only got a C64 in later life, as part of my natural tendency to hoard old electronics

So coding on the C64 and X16 is a little alien to me, but it's certainly fun!

Hello! You may remember me from GitHub. I have installed the snap package on my Eee PC 900, but it is still R39 (reinstalled it today and use the edge branch). I can compile the R42 emulator on this system myself, but for users that cannot compile it would be good if the snap for Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS i686 (last Ubuntu for this system) was up to date.

It is still useful with x16emu on this system for e.g. programs that are useful running at 20% of full speed since it emulates an 8 Mhz 65C02 which is still faster at 20% than e.g. a C64 with 1 MHz 6510 at full speed.

You can always upload alternate builds on the release thread. We welcome builds for Linux distros and other operating systems that may not be supported by the official builds.

Hello! Such an interesting opening line, where does one begin?

While I'm an older vintage human than you, meatbag would not be a descriptor that I would use to deprecate myself. I had an employer who perhaps did think of people that way...

Like yourself I've worked for software companies, owned a cat (which is essentially working for one really ) but only worked on old computers, not for them.

Sadly even the newest and latest computer gets old fast given the leading edge of technology. I've outlived so many systems, OSes and languages in my life. Some were trends, flavour of the year (Win 95, 98, 2000, ect) but I see the X16 aiming for a market where it will be a classic that hopefully outlives me.

Many here were made aware of the X16 through the 8 bit guy's videos on the project. It's an amazing community so far, and I expect it will grow immensely one hardware is shipping to the masses.

Finally , the 8 bit world is fun and I hope you continue to enjoy it.
