Greetings from a New Member Who Just Ordered!

Post by RetroBit_91 »

Hello, guys! I first learned about the Commander X16 from Retro Recipes over on YouTube about a year ago. At that time, I had just received the C64 Maxi from Ireland, which was then shipped to the States, and I found Jason to be a fantastic source of information for the Commodore 64. He then introduced me to The 8-Bit Guy and a ton of other great YouTubers focused on retro computing. Before diving into the C64, I was primarily interested in Windows 98 programs and gaming on its hardware, since that's what I grew up with.

My parents were computer teachers at daycare facilities for kids ages 3-12. They would load up their tower and monitor on a dolly cart and teach classes of 6-10 kids about hardware, peripherals, and software. I’d help them pick out cool software, and it was always a blast browsing computer stores with them—especially the rare Gateway store. I had access to a wide range of computers and laptops, as well as every kids’ game and learning software from Windows 95 to Windows XP until around 2006. By then, most people had home computers and were no longer willing to pay for computer classes.

I recently ordered the Commander X16 Developer Edition with all the extras. However, I still need to order the case and hope to grab the official one soon, along with the cool radio card coming out. I'm really excited to be here, and I purchased this hardware to learn how to code. I'm particularly interested in 6502 assembly and will start with learning BASIC. While I mainly build computers, I'm now eager to start building programs. Thanks for creating this wonderful community!

Then you definitely need to get the X16-M case, which will accommodate expansion cards. JM2C.
