Hi all!
Been following this project since the beginning. Been toying with purchasing one for a while. Decided to pull the trigger today as a Bday present to myself. Ordered the board, PSU, KB, Mouse, Midi+Wavetable cards, Serial/Network card - basically everything.
Found a mATX case on amazon that looks like it'll work that is inexpensive: https://www.amazon.com/Micro-ATX-Case-P ... B0CQXG94XW
I'll order some Super Nintendo controllers when I order the case (once the board and such arrives). Already have a monitor that I use for the Super Maximite 2 with VGA that I'll use for this as well.
What else should I know???
I'm an old C64 BASIC programmer back in the 80's (my first computer), and I currently have a C128 DCR that is my pride and joy, along with an upgraded Amiga 2000 (and a HEAVILY modded A500). Alas, I didn't really "get" assembly language programming until college, and took the Assembly language (MIPS based) class the fall AFTER selling my C64. I literally smacked myself in the head during that class "Oh, THATS what they meant by the accumulator and registers and..."
These days I do robotics research and development, mostly ROS2, C++ and Python code. I also have a Color Maximite 2 so I've gotten my feet wet with BASIC again and it's going to be interesting going back to non-OO programming again. Might have to see what other languages are available to use on this thing.
Looking forward to the start of my journey. Really looking forward to digging into the VERA and seeing what I can do with it, and dabbling with some assembly language too.
Hey there, just ordered...

Welcome! The X16 is a fabulous machine and I enjoy writing assembler on it very much. I did lots of Z80 assembler back in the 80's, and I definitely miss the Z80's luxurious register count lol.

Then you might want to check out the N-Go. It's a re-packaged ZX Spectrum Next, which just so happens to use a Z-80 architecture.darvidanoar wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 7:24 pm I definitely miss the Z80's luxurious register count lol.

I have an Aquarius+ (with a real Z80) to feed my modern retro Z80 needs.

Yay my setup is shipping out (just got the tracking number). Now let's see if USPS can manage to get it here 1) safely and 2) without taking the most circuitous route humanly possible...
